Baby Belly Henna Tattoos can be personalized with the name of your baby, older siblings, or other family members.
-
-
The “tree of life” is a common henna motif used during pregnancy.
-
-
The leaves symbolize new life (ie. the baby or children), the trunk symbolizes the parents and the roots symbolize the ancestors or grandparents.
-
-
Butterfly symbolism emphasizes the transformative aspects of pregnancy and birth.
-
-
-
Vines and leaves, which symbolize intertwining lives, vitality, devotion and perseverance are also commonly used for Baby Belly Henna Tattoos.

Henna paste is dark brown in colour. This picture was taken minutes after applying the henna paste. The final stain, or “tattoo”, will be orange, red, or brown. While you may desire a more dramatic contrast, NEVER use or request “black henna”. Pastes which are marketed as “black henna” contain dangerous chemicals and can cause permanent skin damage / scarring.
-
-
Depending on your skin tone and several other factors, the colour of the henna tattoo can vary. This picture was taken after henna paste was washed off (about 8 hours after application). Note how the lines are quite light and the colour of the stain is orange. The stain darkens over the first few days.

-
This picture was taken 3 days after the paste was applied. Note how the tatoo has darkened and become more brown in colour.

This client did not know the gender of her baby, so she had not decided on a name. She chose to cutomize her design by including the nicname her and her French-speaking partner use to refer to the baby.

Designs can be chosen (or customized!) which work with the shape of your belly, the colour and texture of your skin, as well as your personal aesthetic tastes. The branches, leaves and roots of this henna tree compliment the radiating stretch marks on this mother’s belly.

I like to provide my clients with pictures of their henna tattoos. You can choose to have me edit out any stretch marks, moles, or scars which you would rather not have appear on your photos…
-
-
Or you can celebrate the unique terrain of your pregnant belly by leaving your photos unedited.

-
Colour, black and white or sepia options are available.

This client chose to honor her professional training as a scientist by choosing a symmetrical pattern which resembled a fractal.
-
-
-
-
The central pattern of this client’s fractal henna tattoo is repeated on the hands/arms of the women who attended her babyshower.
-
-
Some clients choose to include phrases, feelings or words which have significance to them or describe the dreams they have for their pregnancy and child.
